Be the luck of the Irish for one day of the year, even if you are not even slightly Irish. When celebrating St. Patrick’s Day, do it with Irish eyes smiling and toasting with some of Ireland’s best beers. Do not be fooled. There are pseudo-Irish beers that claim to be from the country. Contrary to belief, dropping green food coloring into a pitcher of Bud Light does not make it an Irish beer either. Ireland is known for heavy stouts and lighter ales. To enjoy your St. Patty’s to the fullest; make sure you know your Irish Beer 101.

Johnnie Walker Private Scotch Tasting

Christmas time is upon us again. Most of us struggle with what to get our friends and loved ones. Every year Neiman Marcus includes in their Christmas Book a section called Fantasy Gifts which astonishes and sparks the imagination; gifts that have usually been reserved for ones of exceptional means, which would be expected of a premiere luxury store like Neiman Marcus. This holiday season in addition to the million dollar dancing fountains from WET (the same fountains you’ll find at the Bellagio… and yes, it’s $1,000,000) and the Ferrari FF, bespoke exclusively for Neiman Marcus, is a gift that truly keeps on giving – The Johnnie Walker Private Scotch Tasting. Oh Yeah, it’s Mardi Gras!
If you are like many people, Mardi Gras is a chance to drink lusciously. Being in New Orleans for the real thing is an amazing experience since it is of historical significance as a feast before Easter. It is a day for celebration and its origination dates back to Medieval Europe. Although, it is still unknown to how it transformed into the Mardi Gras today. However, it is said to date back to the times of the Romans. One thing is certain, you must celebrate like a king and you must bask in the colors of green, purple, and gold.
Mardi Gras is a boost to New Orleans economy because it attracts thousands of tourists from around the country to enjoy the rich party tradition that started the city. So, what is to expect when you go to Mardi Gras? First of all, be prepared to drink hearty. Mardi Gras has specialty drinks to enjoy. Get decked out in your wildest garb and hit Canal Street and parade with only the best cocktails in hand. What drinks should you order up? Here are few suggestions that will get you going and going.
The hurricane is a classic Mardi Gras specialty and the tastiness is meant to be large! It is a perfect blend of amaretto, light and dark rum with orange and pineapple juice, and a splash of grenadine. To get really crazy; float 151proof rum on top which is commonly referred to as “New Orleans Style.” Another classic is the Mojito. Although it is a Cuban cocktail with light rum, sugar, mint leaves and fresh lime juice; it gets an extra toast at Mardi Gras because that version is topped with fizzy champagne,
Wanting an interesting concoction? The New Orleans Sazerac is one to ask for. It contains ¼ ounce of whiskey, 2 ounces of Pernod licorice liqueur, 1 dash Angostura bitter, a teaspoon of sugar and a twist of lemon peel. The sugar goes to the bottom of an old fashioned glass and then saturated with the bitters. Ice cubes are then added with the remaining liquors. Fill with water, and stir well before serving. Another is the New Orleans Hand Grenade. This one took me by storm. Drinking it will only do the same. It is equal ½ ounce portions of gin, grain alcohol, melon liqueur, rum, and vodka. For something with a smoother edge, try a Mardi Gras Ambrosia. It is a supple blend of ¾ ounces of dark rum, ½ ounce of curacao, and then add orange juice, cream of coconut and crushed ice. There are individuals that like to keep their drinks simple. To enjoy a specialty and steer away from an ordinary beer, try a New Orleans Salty Dog. It is 5 ounces of grapefruit juice to 1 ½ ounces of vodka with salt.
Whichever way you celebrate Mardi Gras whether in New Orleans or not; take note of what to savor. Mardi Gras is meant to party in your best costume, get the most beads, and toast to New Orleans and its flair! Okay, and maybe eat some king cake too. Cheers!
Preface –
The purpose of the document is to illustrate the deployment process and to clearly define the responsibilities of all teams involved in performing application changes.
Typical scenario, you have a new application, jvm’s have been built, and everything needed for the initial set up is complete. The focus now is in maintenance and continuity.
How it’s done now:
Applications constantly change to meet the needs of business. Application teams have been charged with the task of updating the code to meet those needs. Once the those updates are made, it has long been the practice to hand it off to the support teams and if there are no issues on the other end, move on to the next task at hand. This service paradigm will change.
Where we are going:
As EWTS moves towards a self service model, it becomes important for the application teams to know how their application code is updated on the servers.
With more control being given over to the application teams; the nature of their involvement in the process will need to change. They need to take ownership of their application and expand the role they play in the entire application lifecycle.
Let’s pause here to get some background and explain why this is all happening.
EWTS has been regarded as a team with three main purposes:
1) Build an optimized functional environment for application code
2) Monitor the state of the environment
3) Fix any issues with the environment
Ask anyone what EWTS does and that’s what they’ll tell you.
There is however a task that supersedes all others and has always been our priority. The commitment to constant improvement is our priority and drives all our initiatives.
Yes, it is a general term that has been thrown about in mission statements and is a lofty expectation of everyone, everywhere, all the time; but in this context, how it applies to EWTS means the following:
Streamline the process. Remove redundancies, simplify whenever possible.
Automate any performance tasks
Standardize which will bring stability through consistency
The goal is to
Faster, cheaper, stronger
